Phil Brings Hope To The Garden
In case you didn’t know, the Knicks finally got Phil Jackson to rejoin the organization as their President of Basketball Operations. There’s been decades long flirting between the two, and it finally culminated in a marriage. As a Knicks fan, it’s a great piece of good news during what has been a disappointing season. Why you ask? Because it gives us hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. Hope for a Championship.
I’ve been a Knicks fan all my life. I’ve never seen a Knicks parade down the Canyon of Heroes. The Yankees, Giants, Mets, Islanders and Rangers have all made that magical trip since the last Knicks title in 1973. It’s down right depressing. Of course there have been attempts to field a winner, and there have been some very good Knicks teams over the years. But none could get us over the top.
Jackson is a proven winner. 13 rings (2 as a player and 11 as a coach) tells me he knows how to foster a winning culture. As the Subject Matter Expert on winning in the organization, Dolan will let Phil influence the Knicks in a way that will hopefully lead to more wins. More importantly, with the Zen Master in charge, players will now look at New York as a viable option. That to me is the most important takeaway. If Phil can bring in good players to pair with Melo, the chances of the Knicks winning the Chip go up. Especially if he can attract a certain guy who’s currently displaying his talents in Miami.
For too long, Knicks fans have suffered. There’s finally hope for a great future at the Garden and I’m here for it. I know it’s only been a few days, but I’m excited. No, Phil hasn’t made wine out of water, or gotten rid of Bargz’s contract. But there’s hope here now. Hope for a Championship.
